Recently, the artist made waves with his infectious track, “Birthday Dance,” showcasing not only his musical talent but also his ability to forge connections with a global audience.

 In a candid conversation with EBONY, Josh delved into his Houston upbringing, shedding light on the evolution of his musical journey from H-Town to the bustling scene of Los Angeles. As he continues to carve his niche in the industry, Josh offered insights into his creative process and the eager anticipation surrounding his debut album. 

Reflecting on his church roots, Josh expressed a deep connection to gospel music, emphasizing its enduring influence on his identity. He acknowledged the foundational role the church played in shaping his relationship with music, emphasizing that gospel remains an integral part of his story. 

The transition from Houston to Los Angeles has also left an indelible mark on Josh’s sound. He attributed Houston’s musical influence to his love for percussion and bass, elements that have become central to his distinctive style. In LA, he expanded his musical horizons, delving into R&B and Hip-Hop, thus broadening his understanding of music history. 

Responding to fan demand for a sequel, Josh elaborated on the extension of his Disc One/Two series. He shared his attachment to the world he had created, opting for a deluxe edition to further explore the themes of Disc Two. The inclusion of tracks like “Ego” and “Birthday Dance” added depth to the narrative, offering fans an extended glimpse into the evolving chapter of his musical journey. 

Speaking about the creation of the “Birthday Dance,” Josh revealed a desire to infuse positivity into his repertoire. Contrary to his usual darker and edgier style, the song marked a departure towards a more upbeat and celebratory tone. He envisioned the track as a universal anthem for joy, transcending the confines of special occasions. 

Josh recounted the surreal experience of witnessing “Birthday Dance” go viral on TikTok. Despite his unwavering belief in the song, he admitted to initial uncertainty. However, the rapid global dissemination of the track affirmed his faith in the power of his music, bringing him joy as diverse audiences connected with his creation. 

Sharing the inspiration behind his rendition of Boyz II Men’s “Let It Snow,” Josh reminisced about the song’s significance in his childhood home during Christmas. The decision to cover the classic was driven by a genuine connection to the track, and he aimed to pay homage while adding his personal touch to the harmonies and arrangement.
