Lil Wayne has revealed his personal favorite rap verse that he’s ever recorded, and the answer may take some fans by surprise.
During a conversation with Maverick Carter for an episode of his Mavericks series, Weezy was asked to pick out his most memorable lyrical performance to date. The rap star answered Carter’s question by naming a song from the Hot Boys’ debut album, “Get It How U Live!,” which was released nearly three decades ago in 1997.
According to the 42-year-old, “Block Burner,” his solo song on the album, remains his strongest work to date, and garnered him respect from other lyricists in Hip-Hop, particularly artists from New York.
“To me, to this day, my best verse is gonna always be my verse on my first solo song on the Hot Boys album. It was a song called ‘Block Burner’,” Wayne told Carter. “And so, when we would go do shows and stuff in New York, even a TV show or something — if they had another New York artist on that, they would always pull me to the side and let me know like, ‘Bro, I respect that you rap like that and don’t cuss.’”
Beginning his career at a young age, Lil Wayne has been releasing rap recordings for three decades. Making his debut as one-half of The B.G.’z, a duo featuring fellow Hot Boys member B.G., and releasing the album, True Story, in 1995, Wayne appeared on solo albums by Juvenile and B.G., as well as the Big Tymers, during the late ’90s.
Breaking out as a star member of the Hot Boys upon the release of Get It How U Live! and the follow-up, Guerilla Warfare, Weezy confirmed his stardom with his 1999 solo debut, Tha Block Is Hot, the first of several of his albums to reach platinum certification.
The Young Money founder recently announced that the long-awaited release of his Carter VI album will come this year. Carter VI will be the first full-length project Tunechi has released since 2023’s Welcome 2 Collegrove, his collaborative album with 2 Chainz.
Lil Wayne will be hitting the road next month for a mini tour featuring his Hot Boys group mates, a continuation of the reunion shows the legendary quartet appeared for throughout 2024, particularly at Wayne’s Lil’ WeezyAna Festival. The mini tour is scheduled to begin with a show in Tampa, FL, on February 21, followed by a stop in Charlotte, NC, on February 23, and will wrap up in St. Louis, MO, on February 28.
