Megan Thee Stallion is currently on fire, thanks in part to her collaboration with the beloved snack, Cheetos Flamin’ Hots. In an exclusive interview, we caught up with the Grammy-award winning artist, Megan Pete, to delve into her latest venture.
In her own words, Megan enthusiastically states, “So your girl is the Dean of Admissions at Flamin’ Hot University, which would only be right. Basically, you’re learning about Hot Girl 101 and definitely all of my favorite recipes using Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.”
Although the initiative may sound light-hearted, its purpose is twofold: to support students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and to promote the value of education.
Megan, a 28-year-old rapper and an HBCU graduate herself, joined forces with the minds behind the popular snack to develop digital courses encompassing cooking tutorials, photography tips, content creation advice, and more. Additionally, there’s a merchandise line featuring six unique pieces designed by Melody Ehsani.
For those who have followed Megan’s journey, her pursuit of both music and education has been a recurring theme. Her deep-rooted connection to academia is evident in her family history, with her grandmother being a teacher and her mother, aunt, grandmother, and uncle all attending Prairie View A&M University in Texas.
Megan initially embarked on her educational journey at Prairie View before eventually transferring to her alma mater, Texas Southern University.
After a series of major changes, Megan, known for her hit song “Savage,” found her niche in health administration and successfully graduated in December 2021. The road to completion was marked by challenges, moments of doubt, and a genuine desire to assist fellow students.
She articulates her motivation, saying, “I just know how hard it is to be a struggling college student. And I wanted to create any type of opportunity to give out a scholarship that I could because I know when you get discouraged, the first thing you get discouraged about is how am I gonna pay for this? So, it makes me feel really good to be able to help somebody who wants to go to college finish and get their degree.”
Megan’s non-profit organization, the Pete and Thomas Foundation, extends support to students through scholarships, school supplies, and various essential resources. It also addresses critical needs such as medical care, food security, and housing.
Flamin’ Hot has pledged a substantial contribution of $100,000 to the foundation, which was established in 2022. Moreover, funds generated from the merchandise collection will be allocated to establish a scholarship fund of up to $150,000 at Texas Southern University (TSU).
When Megan isn’t busy creating cooking tutorials that elevate the Flamin’ Hots experience, she maintains a “hottie” lifestyle, which includes a rigorous fitness regimen.
Her dedication is evident in her sculpted physique, defined waist, and an unmistakable radiance that reflects inner confidence. Despite the admiration she receives for her appearance and transformation, the rapper candidly acknowledges that she, like most individuals, grapples with insecurities.
“I think every woman, at any point in time, has had something that they’ve been insecure about with themselves,” she shares. “I love fitness because it helps me with my mental. It’s like my little outlet, and I love the fact that I know I can control my body. If I don’t like something, I go to the gym, and I’ll fix it. But I feel like there’s always gonna be something every day that you feel about yourself.”
She adds, “I just learned about body neutrality versus body positivity. You’re not gonna feel good every day, but you’re gonna feel good some of those days. So when I go to the gym, I’m like, ‘at least I’m working on myself.’ And I think the trying is the fun part. The whole journey is the fun part.”
Body neutrality, Megan explains, entails adopting a neutral stance towards one’s body, focusing on its functionality rather than dwelling on feelings of love or hate. In contrast, body positivity promotes self-love and acceptance.
In addition to championing body neutrality, Megan advocates for a realistic approach to achieving fitness goals and discourages the notion of instant results perpetuated by social media.
“I feel like social media definitely has people thinking things happen overnight. It has people thinking what you see is really what you’re seeing when it’s really not,” she observes. “A lot of people are editing, and a lot of people get there however they got there. I don’t like it when I see my friends obsess and like, ‘oh my gosh, I wanna go to the gym ’cause I wanna look like this.’ You’re gonna look like whatever your body wants to look like.”
Megan encourages individuals to embrace fitness for the sake of their physical and mental well-being or because of their passion for it, rather than pursuing it solely to emulate someone else’s appearance.
“Your body is your body, and it’s gonna be uniquely your body. It’s not gonna ever look like somebody else’s,” she emphasizes.
Despite facing significant challenges in recent years, Megan Thee Stallion finds solace in giving back to the community, nurturing self-love, and relishing a period of genuine happiness.
“This is my happy chapter. This is my fresh chapter. This is like my rebirth chapter,” she shares with exuberance. “I feel like I’ve learned a lot of lessons, and I feel like I’ve come very far. I’m excited this go-around in my life because now with all the lessons that I’ve learned, I know exactly who I want to be. And I’m not forcing it. And I’m so excited to show the hotties my new music and just the way I carry myself. This is my fresh chapter.”
