Kendrick Lamar went off in what turned out to be an epic performance in Sunday night’s Super Bowl halftime show.
One man who chose not to watch the performance, however, is sportscaster Skip Bayless, who reminded the entire football world that he decided to boycott the Super Bowl halftime show “out of respect for my brother Lil Wayne.”
There was debate surrounding the NFL’s decision to pick Lamar as the halftime performer. Even Lil Wayne said “it hurt a whole lot” that he was not given the opportunity to perform in front of his hometown of New Orleans.
In a recent episode of “The Skip Bayless Show,” the 73-year-old sports broadcaster shared his brutally honest thoughts on the NFL’s decision to overlook Lil Wayne. Bayless even floated a conspiracy involving rap icon Jay-Z, who “runs the entertainment department of the NFL.”
According to Bayless, Lil Wayne’s close ties to Drake, who has been the target of Lamar’s diss tracks, could have been a factor in the decision.
Bayless then dropped a bombshell about the NFL supposedly apologized to Lil Wayne.
“The NFL immediately sent Wayne a letter of apology,” Bayless revealed. “From nobody in particular, just from the league on NFL letterhead. A letter that thanked him for his years of supporting the league, not just the Packers, his favorite team, but supporting and promoting the NFL, in general, which he has.
“I mean, he makes weekly appearances on the NFL Sunday pregame show, ’NFL GameDay Morning’ on the NFL Network. But, he will not play Sunday’s halftime show, and he definitely will not watch a second of Sunday’s halftime show. He will watch the game; just not the halftime show. Not one second.”
Lamar took center stage on Sunday, and based on the reception from the fans, the halftime show was a smashing success.
