The Chicago incident involving Carlishia Hood and her teenage son has ignited an ongoing debate concerning self-defense versus murder. Weighing in on the matter is none other than global superstar rapper Nicki Minaj, who has firmly taken a stance and extended a generous gesture. Minaj has stepped forward to pay for the education of the young teenager involved in the Hood case.
On her Instagram Story, Minaj expressed her thoughts, stating, “That 14-year-old boy that backed that hammer out when that grown ass man was punching his mother in the face as if she were a MAN; is a true hero. If he wants to go to college, I’d love to help. It’s what ANY son should’ve done for their MOTHER. She raised a dope kid & should be so proud. Also, God knew b4 she knew; that she’d be attacked that day & made sure they had protection on DECK. God is GOOD.”
The incident, previously reported by The Root, unfolded at the Maxwell Street Express on South Halstead St. Hood had a confrontation with a customer identified as Jeremy Brown, who threatened to assault her.
In response, she instructed someone to get a gun. Moments later, as Brown prepared to strike Hood, her son emerged from the doorway, retrieved a gun from his hoodie, and shot Brown. The teenager pursued Brown, firing additional rounds, resulting in Brown’s death from multiple gunshot wounds.
Initially charged with first-degree murder, both Hood and her son faced public pressure for the charges to be dropped.
Eventually, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office dismissed the charges, citing an inability to meet the legal burden. Hood has since filed a lawsuit against the city of Chicago and the arresting officers, alleging “malicious prosecution, false arrest, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.”
