In a much-anticipated comeback, Shaquille O’Neal has officially rejoined Reebok as the President of Basketball, with Allen Iverson taking on the role of Vice-President.

This significant move marks a momentous return for the NBA legend, who had previously ventured into creating more affordable shoes on his own, driven by a mission to provide budget-friendly options for single mothers.

His decision to part ways with Reebok had been influenced by a memorable encounter with a single mother, where the high cost of his official Reebok shoes played a pivotal role.

Fast forward to the present, Footwear News reports that Shaq has made the decision to reunite with Reebok after a prolonged absence. His return carries added weight as he assumes the role of President of Basketball, signaling his profound commitment to the brand’s resurgence.

Reebok CEO Todd Krinsky emphasized the substantive nature of Shaq’s role, stating, “This is not a consulting role. This is not a figurehead announcement where we create a cool title and then he goes away and calls me once in a while. He’s committed to how we reenter the basketball community, everything from product to marketing to events. He’s got a sharp point of view on things, but he’s also very collaborative and open-minded on how we can reenter.”

Shaq himself underscored the brand’s focus on product, players, and community engagement, remarking, “It’s all about product, players, and the community and having the confidence to do things our own way. We need to capitalize on Reebok’s heritage and product expertise in the sport for today’s youth, but also focus on getting involved in the community from a grassroots level. We’re going to bring in a new generation of players who have strong authenticity and passion, or what I like to refer to as the ‘it factor,’ who can put their own mark on this brand and make it relevant to a whole new generation.”

The exciting news doesn’t stop there. In a surprising move, Allen Iverson has been appointed as Vice President alongside Shaq, cementing his lifetime association with the brand. Iverson’s role will primarily involve player recruitment, community-based initiatives, and various activations. His legendary status as a recruiting powerhouse promises to bring a fresh dimension to Reebok.

Reebok CEO Todd Krinsky celebrated the unique step taken by the brand, stating, “We’re taking two of the most iconic athletes for Reebok, with one signing in ’92 and the other in ’96, and instead of just having them as athletes that we provide products to today or consult with us, we’re putting them in real management roles. This is a movement that really hasn’t happened in our industry. We’ve got legacy athletes, 20-plus year relationships, and we’re putting them in positions of management to help us in the boardroom and to catapult the brand.”

As the demand for sneakers continues to soar in the world of fashion, Reebok is gearing up to reclaim its share of the market. The strategic placement of Shaq and A.I. in key roles demonstrates the brand’s commitment to making a resounding impact in the basketball industry.
