It’s not often that Beyoncé and Bruce Springsteen are mentioned together in the same article—or same breath—as they don’t usually compete with one another. There probably isn’t much overlap between their two fan bases, as, typically, they have made dramatically different types of music.
The two superstars have landed near one another throughout 2024 on at least one ranking, and now, one has swapped spots with the other in a rare showing that few could have predicted even a few months ago.
Beyoncé rises to No. 1 on a U.K. chart this week, as her Cowboy Carter set returns to the summit on the Official Americana list. The project is her first to rule the ranking of the bestselling full lengths in the Americana genre, though this frame is not the first time that the popular title has led the charge.
Cowboy Carter has now spent six nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Official Americana chart. It debuted in that position when it was new, in spring 2024. It then held in first place for five consecutive turns before finally stepping down from the throne.
Beyoncé’s most recent album has lived on the Official Americana chart for 40 weeks. Thirty-nine of those have been inside the top 10, and the one time it fell outside that tier, it landed at No. 11.
As Cowboy Carter finds its way back to No. 1, Beyoncé replaces one of the biggest stars in that genre. Bruce Springsteen is forced from the top spot by the multi-genre powerhouse, but he hasn’t fallen very far.
The rocker’s Best Of compilation slips from No. 1 to No. 2 on this week’s Official Americana ranking. Surprisingly, Springsteen’s hits-packed set has only managed four stays atop the ranking—fewer than Beyoncé’s newest project. To be fair, it has not yet reached 40 weeks on the list (it’s now up to 37 turns), so it could catch up soon.
Cowboy Carter is rising on charts all around the world after Beyoncé showcased the music on the album during a hugely popular football game. She performed during the Christmas Day halftime show in a match between the Houston Texans and the Baltimore Ravens, and the show is now available on Netflix.
As it bumps to the penthouse on the Americana-only ranking, Cowboy Carter nearly matches that performance on the Official Country Artists chart, where Beyoncé currently sits at No. 2. Her first country project also returns to both the main albums list (No. 100) and the Official Album Downloads roster (No. 85).
