Lil Wayne took the stage this weekend to perform his classics for the 50th anniversary of “Saturday Night Live.” Along with The Roots, the legendary rapper performed several of his hits, including “Lollipop,” “6 Foot 7 Foot,” and “A Milli.”
His performance reignited the conversation on social media about whether he should have performed at Super Bowl 59 at the Caesars Superdome in his hometown of New Orleans earlier this month.
“Lil Wayne not performing at the Super Bowl was a crime,” one person wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Another added, “Whoever booked @LilWayne and let him do all these songs… right after the Super Bowl in Nola situation… said, “Check (pause) (smirk) mate.” #SNL50. I love it. Truly.”
“The energy, the breath control, the stage presence.. and y’all had the nerve to say Wayne couldn’t headline the Super Bowl,” another person chimed in.
Lil Wayne previously told his fans that he was not attending the Super Bowl, following months of controversy after the rapper Kendrick Lamar was selected to perform at the halftime show.
He was open about his disappointment, saying at one point that he felt like the opportunity was “ripped away from me.”
Wayne’s SNL appearance comes after he announced his new album, “Tha Carter VI,” will be released on June 6.
