Los Angeles police have arrested singer D4vd, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke, on suspicion of murdering 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, who was reported missing last year.
The arrest yesterday, follows a grand jury investigation into the case, which has garnered significant attention since Hernandez’s remains were discovered in Burke’s Tesla in September last year.
The 21-year-old artist is currently being held without bail, with the case set to be presented to the District Attorney’s office on Monday. While D4vd has largely refrained from commenting publicly, his representatives previously stated that he was cooperating with law enforcement.
Authorities announced on yesterday that Burke was taken into custody “for the murder of Celeste Rivas.” The investigation intensified after her remains were found in a Hollywood tow yard on September 8, 2025, following reports of a foul odor emanating from the vehicle.
Court documents reveal that investigators discovered her decomposed head and torso in a cadaver bag located in the front trunk of the Tesla, which is registered to Burke’s Texas address. The county medical examiner described the body as “severely decomposed” and has yet to determine the cause of death, pending further investigation. Officials indicated that Rivas Hernandez may have been deceased for “several weeks” prior to the discovery.
The case has remained shrouded in mystery, with no official cause of death announced. For months, authorities have treated it as a death investigation, and a judge ordered the sealing of the teen’s death records in November to facilitate the collection of information from the medical examiner.
Rivas Hernandez, who lived approximately 75 miles away from where her body was located, was last seen by her family in April 2024. This was not the first instance of her running away from home. Neighbors described her as a regular visitor to a nearby corner store where she would buy candy and soda.
The unsettling circumstances surrounding her death have sparked widespread intrigue and speculation online, particularly regarding her connection to the singer known for his hit “Romantic Homicide.” A grand jury began reviewing evidence in December, and D4vd’s arrest represents a significant breakthrough in what has been a stagnant investigation.
Recent court filings revealed that Burke had been identified as a “target” of the grand jury probe and may face charges for one count of murder. Additional details released indicate that Rivas Hernandez was wearing a tube top and black leggings when her body was discovered, along with jewelry including a yellow metal stud earring and chain bracelet. Notably, she had a tattoo reading “Shhh…” on her index finger, similar to one on D4vd’s own finger.
Following the discovery of the body, the singer canceled his world tour, marking a significant downturn in his career and retreating from public life. Los Angeles police previously executed a search warrant at his Hollywood Hills residence, located just blocks from where his Tesla had been towed.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, he has been removed from marketing campaigns with major brands like Hollister and Crocs. Additionally, singer Kali Uchis announced she would be withdrawing their collaboration track, “Crashing,” from circulation.
