African American influencer NiKoKobean is accusing former NFL player Jason Short of sending her racist messages after she discussed the Karen Read lawsuit. She later shared the alleged exchange online and criticized him for his comments.
The controversy started after NiKoKobean posted about alleged racist text messages involving members of the Massachusetts State Police and the Canton Police Department. According to Atlanta Black Star, the messages were part of a lawsuit filed by Karen Read, who accused authorities of misconduct during the investigation into the death of Boston police officer John O’Keefe.
Read was arrested in 2022 and charged with killing O’Keefe. After two trials, a jury acquitted her of second-degree murder on June 18, 2025. She later filed a lawsuit claiming police wrongfully targeted her and framed her for the crime.
In her social media posts, NiKoKobean discussed alleged text exchanges involving former Canton Police Sergeant Sean Goode and former Massachusetts State Trooper Michael Proctor. The lawsuit included hundreds of messages that sparked public debate.
Short, a former linebacker who played for the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns, reportedly defended the officers mentioned in the controversy. NiKoKobean said he replied to her post with messages that included racist remarks and personal attacks.
She shared screenshots of the alleged conversation, claiming Short said police officers should be supported for dealing with criminals. She also said he called her a “clown” and accused her of having a “victim mentality.”
NiKoKobean said the messages she shared were only examples of what Short allegedly sent after her video gained attention. She later criticized him for making those statements online, saying he would not speak the same way face-to-face.
Short has not publicly addressed the accusations. NiKoKobean ended her response by calling him a “keyboard warrior” and questioning why he chose to direct his comments toward her online.
“Just like every other racist coward, he has energy for women and children, never men. He did not say this to his teammates. I’m sure he did not say this to the people he was playing against. He has all this energy online, a keyboard warrior. An NFL player that people haven’t even heard of,” she said.
