American pop star Ariana Grande will take an extended break from public engagements after concluding her Eternal Sunshine world tour next month, prompting her withdrawal from a planned London theatre production.
According to a statement issued by her representative to People magazine, the 33-year-old entertainer intends to reduce her public profile following years of intense attention surrounding her personal life and appearance.
The spokesperson said the decision was made to allow Grande to rest after months of demanding performances while avoiding the constant public commentary that has accompanied her recent activities.
Her departure means she will no longer feature in the 2027 revival of Sunday in the Park with George, which is scheduled to be staged at the Barbican Centre.
Producers behind the production expressed full support for her decision, describing it as understandable and wishing her well.
Speculation surrounding Grande’s health and physical appearance has intensified in recent years, particularly following Friday’s release of her latest album, Petal.
Discussion increased further after promotional material for the project featured imagery that sparked renewed online debate.
One of the album’s music videos portrays Grande as an aspiring performer subjected to relentless criticism over her looks and career, with the fictional character eventually rebelling against those judging her.
Her representative maintained that the singer remains in good health and continues to deliver physically demanding performances throughout the tour, noting that the production requires significant stamina and athletic ability each night.
The announcement prompted an outpouring of encouragement from supporters, with the hashtag #WeLoveYouAriana gaining traction across social media as fans shared messages of solidarity and concern.
Grande’s tour resumes in Chicago before moving to London’s O2 Arena for a 10-show run beginning on August 15.
The final concert of the tour is scheduled for September 1.
The singer had originally been cast opposite British actor Jonathan Bailey in the acclaimed musical, directed by Marianne Elliott.
Empire Street Productions confirmed that the show will proceed as planned despite Grande’s withdrawal.
The Barbican Centre also reaffirmed its commitment to the production, expressing hope that Grande could collaborate with the venue in the future when circumstances permit.
Organisers said additional casting announcements and ticket information for the 2027 production will be released at a later date.
