There appear to be some conflicting accounts regarding the legal drama between Ovrkast. and the legendary rap duo, OutKast. High Schoolers LLC, the company that holds the trademark rights OutKast, accused the Bay Area rapper and producer of breaching an arrangement where he’d change his name to Overkxst. However, in a since-deleted post captured by Complex, he said that he never actually signed an agreement.
“For the record, I NEVER SIGNED any agreement,” the “Play This” artist wrote. “It was verbal, and I did not ignore their date. I went back and asked politely for a name change that would work. I was cooperative every step of the way and I am an artist in the middle of a rollout with priorities.”
The court filing says a cease-and-desist was issued in June 2025. The parties then entered into an agreement under which he would use “Overkxst” for future recordings and performances while removing the “Ovrkast.” name from his website, streaming profiles, domain, and merchandise.
High Schoolers LLC filed the lawsuit against Ovrkast. on September 16th. The 31-page federal complaint accuses him of violating trademark rights, engaging in unfair competition, and failing to honor a settlement agreement that required him to stop using the name “Ovrkast.”
The dispute followed a 2025 cease-and-desist and an agreement allowing use of “Overkxst” instead. The company claims the transition deadline passed July 15, 2026, without compliance. It is seeking an injunction, profits, damages, legal fees and destruction of branded merchandise. Wilson must respond in Georgia federal court.
In a separate post, Ovrkast. explained that there’s more to the story behind the scenes. “Theres a lot that I’ve been dealing with emotionally/mentally this past year behind closed doors regarding this whole situation,” he wrote. “So before you criticize please remember that I am the newer and younger artist trying to figure my way.”
