On Monday, March 30th, multifaceted performer and actress Brandy Norwood received the 2,839th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6201 Hollywood Boulevard, in front of Arrive Hollywood, in the Recording category, just ahead of the release of her debut memoir, Phases, on March 31st. To honor the iconic artist, emcee Sibley Scoles, creator of the hit television series Insecure, Issa Rae, and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds delivered thoughtful speeches. Celebrity guests included Tisha Campbell, Kehlani, Jenifer Lewis, and more, along with music industry executives Stephen Hill and Ryan Press, as well as other influential entertainment leaders and her family members: mother Sonia Norwood, father Willie Norwood, and daughter Syrai Smith.
“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to welcome performer Brandy to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, stated Ana Martinez, Walk of Fame producer. “Brandy has captivated audiences for decades with a voice and artistry that helped shape modern R&B and inspire generations of performers. Honoring her with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is a celebration of not only her extraordinary music career but also her lasting impact on television, film, and popular culture. We are proud to welcome Brandy to this iconic sidewalk that celebrates the very best of entertainment,” added Martinez.

Emotionally, Norwood took the stage and greeted her loving fans, friends, and family members. “Seeing the stars on the Walk of Fame lit something in me. It made me believe. It made me affirm over my own life: I’m going to sing my way onto one of these stars. And I did!” She continued, “As honored as I’ve been by every accolade, every milestone, every form of recognition, I didn’t want to stop at just being remembered on the Hollywood High School mural. I wanted a legacy written in stone.”
The multi-platinum, GRAMMY Award-winning recording artist and actor stands among the most influential voices of her generation and has a multi-generational impact. For more than three decades, she has shaped music, television, and live performance through technical mastery, artistic innovation, and cultural impact. Norwood was born into a musically rooted and inclined family and raised in the church, which influenced her love for music and the arts.
She began singing at the age of two, as a cappella harmony was the only way she knew to sing in her formative years, shaping a voice grounded in discipline, precision, and layered expression. This early foundation would later influence contemporary R&B while helping shape the evolution of modern pop music. Her 1994 self-titled debut album went 4x-Platinum and introduced a vocal style defined by intricate harmonies and emotional nuance. With her 1998 sophomore album Never Say Never, Brandy achieved Diamond status, selling over 16 million albums worldwide.
Beyond music, Brandy became a defining presence on television. From 1996 to 2001, she starred in the hit UPN sitcom Moesha, helping to redefine representation for a generation and establishing herself as a cultural force beyond the recording industry. Brandy later appeared in hit series such as Star, The Game, Queens, Drop Dead Diva, and Zoe Ever After.
Rae said of the performer’s positive influence on her life dating back to the early 90s, “I’m so honored to be here, I’ve never said yes faster to a text from my publicist,” Rae began. “I talk about Brandy in all of my interviews. The first time I saw Brandy, I had no idea how much I needed to see Brandy.”
She noted that Brandy’s presence on television was influential, given the lack of representation at the time. “It was really ‘Moesha’ that made me understand what was possible,” Rae continued. “It was the first show I’d ever seen told from an ordinary Black girl’s point of view. Brandy made Moesha someone I wanted to befriend, the girl I wanted to be. At a time when beauty standards on television looked nothing like us, Brandy was the standard.” She continued, “She was cool without trying and beautiful without apology. Moesha gave me confidence, sometimes overconfidence, and she made it all look effortless. The most inspirational part of her career is just how she had no lane. As her career progressed, so did her ambitions. She didn’t need to stay in one lane.”
“To me, Brandy was and is the blueprint,” Rae said. “Without Brandy as ‘Moesha,’ there’s no ‘Parkers’, there’s no ‘Girlfriends.’ There’s no ‘Insecure,’ and honestly, without ‘Moesha’ there’s no me as a writer.”
Babyface reflected on his three-decade friendship with the award-winning artist, as well as being an experienced producer for some of R&B and pop’s biggest acts, as he celebrated Norwood’s latest accomplishment. “For me, you have one of the best voices I’ve ever heard. You give one of the best feelings I’ve ever heard. The soul that’s in your voice. The way you move your voice, you’re like an athlete, the way you can move your voice. No one can do it the way that you do it,” Babyface said. “I think of Brandy as one of the best voices of our time, and I work with all of them.”
