Singer Mario has responded to online rumors claiming he does not like Black women, after social media backlash over his relationship. He defended himself in an Instagram Story, calling it “slander,” and reaffirmed his love and support for Black women.

According to WBLS, the backlash began after Mario revealed that his girlfriend, Latina model Esmeralda Rios, is pregnant with their first child. Some fans reacted negatively, saying he had distanced himself from the women who helped build his career.

Comments spread quickly across social media. Critics argued that Mario built his music career on the loyalty of Black women but chose not to start a family with one. One user wrote, “We’ve been holding you down for 20 years, Mario, and THIS is who you give a baby to?”

Mario directly addressed these accusations online. “I’m so tired of the black women slander in the comments about how I don’t like black women and how black women aren’t loved!!” he wrote. He added that those making such comments were the ones truly disrespecting Black women, before stating clearly: “Black women are loved and needed.”

Supporters defended his choice, saying he should be free to love who he wants. One user responded, “Y’all mad at Mario for loving who he loves? Please.” Another added, “Love is love. If you were a real fan, you’d be happy that he found someone.”

Despite his response, the online conversation remains divided. At this time, Mario has not made any further comments beyond his Instagram post, and it is unclear if he plans to issue a more formal response.
