Teyana Taylor is moving forward with confidence following her divorce from Iman Shumpert. The singer opened up about the split during a visit to “The Breakfast Club” on August 27, addressing ongoing chatter around her financial settlement and public statements.

Taylor spoke directly to rumors claiming she “took everything” from Shumpert. She described feeling confused about the allegations and pushed back on the narrative. When co-host Jess Hilarious brought up her reported $70,000 legal bill, Taylor called it “the best little coin” she’s ever spent, framing it as money well used to defend herself.

The multifaceted entertainer also reflected on the difficulty of sharing her perspective publicly on Instagram. She said she had reached out to Shumpert beforehand to clarify the situation and was surprised by how the information circulated. Taylor explained, “I thought we were on great terms. I said, ‘Hey, baby daddy, something’s coming back to me that you and your people are sending out stuff.’ But it’s really hard to believe that because we’re in a really great space.” She added that Shumpert denied being involved in spreading information, pointing instead to her as the source.

Taylor and Shumpert’s divorce, finalized last July, became public following a year of social media claims and allegations. The filing described Shumpert’s treatment as “cruel” and noted “extreme narcissistic behavior throughout the majority of their marriage.” Reports indicated Taylor received a seven-figure settlement and four marital properties valued at over $10 million, while Shumpert retained three properties, including his Decatur home, a South Georgia ranch, and a Miami condo. He was also reportedly ordered to pay $8,000 in child support and cover private school tuition for their daughter.

Despite the scrutiny, she emphasized that defending herself and sharing her truth was worth it, framing the experience as a step toward clarity and closure.
