Brenay Kennard, a TikTok influencer from Durham, North Carolina, was ordered to pay $1.75 million after a jury found her responsible for breaking up her manager’s marriage through an affair, causing emotional harm to his family.

The lawsuit in Durham County Court alleged that Kennard seduced her manager, Tim Montague, and maintained a relationship both publicly and privately that led to the end of his nearly five-year marriage. Tim eventually left his wife, Akira Montague, for Kennard.

Akira Montague said the affair caused serious emotional distress, affected her health, and left her children without a stable two-parent household. “She has received justice from losing her husband and the father of her children,” Akira’s attorney, Robonetta Jones, said, according to ABC 7.

The jury held Kennard liable for criminal conversation and alienation of affection, a rare North Carolina law that allows a spouse to sue someone they blame for interfering in their marriage. This law formed the basis for the $1.75 million award.

Kennard challenged the verdict, claiming Akira had known about the affair and gave consent, believing her marriage was already over. The court, however, focused on the harm caused to the Montague family.

The case drew extra attention because Kennard openly shared parts of the affair on social media, including TikTok, where she has nearly 3 million followers, and Instagram, with over 270,000 followers.
