When it comes to what’s next for Dani Dupree on Beyond the Gates, even Karla Mosley isn’t pretending to have insider answers.
“I cannot say,” Mosley, 44, says with a laugh when asked whether Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett) or Andre Richardson (Sean Freeman) is endgame for her character Dani. “I honestly have no idea.”
Beyond the Gates follows the powerful and complicated lives of the Dupree family, a wealthy Black dynasty at the center of a gated suburban community in Maryland, as they navigate love, legacy, betrayal, ambition and long-held secrets.
The CBS daytime drama has leaned fully into audience energy this season, especially as Dani’s romantic triangle started to take unexpected turns. Mosley says the writers didn’t even predict how strongly fans would respond to certain pairings.
“The writers did not think Dani and Andre were gonna pop off the way that they did,” she explains. “Originally, they thought Bill and Dani would be back together by the end of season one. And then it was like, wait, what is happening?”
For Mosley, that reaction says a lot about where viewers are right now — and what they want from soap storytelling.
“It speaks to where women are now,” she says. “The old soap trope is the torn woman who goes back to her man. But I think there are enough women now who are like, I want to see her win.”
Still, she’s not picking sides. Instead, she’s encouraging fans to keep the conversation going because it might actually matter for the plot.
“I do think the energy that you all give does influence that writers’ room,” she says. “So keep talking about it, y’all.”
And that fan-driven momentum is part of a bigger philosophy for Mosley, both on and off screen.
“Bet on Black every time,” she says. “Bet on stories, bet on passion, and bet on people committed to showing real life in all its forms on your TV.”
While romance drama fuels much of the buzz, Mosley is equally energized by the show’s expanding universe, including its crossover event with The Young and the Restless.
“I keep saying over and over again, the writers have killed it so hard,” she says, pointing to recent storylines building toward the event.
But she’s quick to clarify expectations.
“It’s not a dinner party,” Mosley teases. “We’re not just sitting around.”
Fans hoping for a simple meet-and-greet between soaps, however, are in for something bigger.
“There’s a tornado and even crossover drama between the shows,” she says. “It only expands the world, and hopefully it’s the start of many.”
Beyond the Gates has been renewed for seasons 3 and 4. All episodes can be streamed on Paramount+.
