“Dear White People” star DeRon Horton is on the road to recovery after revealing he was shot just days before Christmas.
Taking to Instagram on Thursday (Jan. 16), Horton detailed the terrifying experience, “First off, I wanna give an honor to God for covering me and protecting me to make it out this situation and countless other ones,” the “Burning Sands” actor wrote, sharing images of his heavily bandaged arm and a shattered car window.
“Getting shot a few days before Xmas def wasn’t on my wish list, but it happened.”
The 32-year-old actor revealed he was shot through his car, which left him needing surgery and a plate with screws in his arm.
Despite this, Horton maintained a positive outlook, focusing on his blessings. “But I’m Blessed dawg to not be in a casket or paralyzed… I just wanted to remind y’all and myself to Keep God first! Stay Alert n Grateful for Everything.”
Support poured in from friends and co-stars. Logan Browning, Horton’s “Dear White People” castmate, commented, “Dear God, thank you for protecting my special Deron.” Fellow co-star Ashley Blaine Featherson-Jenkins wrote, “Thank GOD for your life. I’m so so SO happy you’re ok.”
The actor assured fans he was on the road to recovery and not looking for sympathy. “I’m finna bounce right back. I feel amazing,” he declared, emphasizing his determination to heal.
Horton’s career includes standout roles in “American Vandal,” “American Horror Story,” and “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey.”
