Ghanaian actress and media personality Nana Ama McBrown has encouraged young people to develop practical skills alongside their formal education, arguing that learning a trade can create opportunities for financial independence.
Speaking in a recent interview on Joy FM, the actress said academic qualifications should not prevent anyone from acquiring a practical skill that could become a source of income.
She advised;
“If you didn’t get a formal education, learn a trade. Even if you did have an education, still learn a trade or a handy job”
McBrown stressed that a person’s background or educational level should not determine their prospects in life. She urged young people to recognise their individual abilities and refuse to allow difficult circumstances to limit their ambitions.
She said;
“Everybody was born into this world with something, whether your parents are alive or they’re not alive, whether you have education or you don’t have, I want you to know that you’re somebody or who you think you are”
According to McBrown, developing the right mindset is equally important in achieving success.
She explained that self-belief can influence how individuals approach their goals, encouraging young people to see themselves as capable of achieving meaningful things.
She maintained;
“If you think you’re somebody, you will become somebody. If you think you are wayward or you’re just useless for anything, then you will be”
The actress also pointed to social media as an avenue that has created new opportunities for people to build careers and businesses outside the traditional education system.
She said;
“Right now social media has made people wealthy and popular. You don’t have to feel that because you didn’t go to school you won’t make it in life”
McBrown further encouraged young adults to identify areas they are passionate about and invest time in developing their abilities.
She believes people should have a clearer sense of direction as they enter adulthood and should work towards becoming highly skilled in their chosen fields.
She stated;
“By this age above 20 you know what you want. You need to fall in love with something. The moment you fall in love with something, you learn about that something and you make sure you equip yourself in that something”
The actress cautioned against spreading oneself too thin by pursuing too many interests simultaneously.
@Her Excellency Nana A McBrown encourages young people to use social media wisely, stressing the importance of pursuing their passions and learning a skill to help build a successful future. She shared the advice during an interview with @M E L V I N on Luv FM. #gistsonline
