Burna Boy presented the Sócrates Award given for outstanding humanitarian work to Arsenal and England forward Bukayo Saka. Before handing over the trophy, he spoke about his football academy in Nigeria and expressed hope that one day a Nigerian talent from the project would stand on the same stage as a Ballon d’Or winner. “Hopefully, inshallah, one day I’ll come back here to see one of my people getting an award in Ballon d’Or,” he said.
The appearance came just hours after Burna Boy delivered a high-energy halftime performance at the NFL’s first regular-season game in France at the Stade de France, further cementing his growing presence on the world’s biggest sporting stages.
