In a heartwarming gesture, the Grammy-nominated artist and Denver Broncos quarterback recently contributed a substantial sum of $1 million to a range of local charitable organizations, as reported by TMZ. Their philanthropic endeavor, announced on October 17 through an Instagram video, showcased the power couple personally donating $100,000 each.

“We are forever grateful for the opportunity to impact our youth!” Wilson said. “Today, we celebrated 10 deserving organizations which will each receive $100,000 to support their remarkable work in health equity, education, food security, social justice, and support for children and youth.”
The generous contributions, facilitated through their respective foundations, Why Not You Foundation and Common Spirit Health, focus on supporting education, children’s health, and alleviating poverty. These foundations were originally established in Seattle during Russell Wilson’s tenure with the Seattle Seahawks.
However, the Why Not You Foundation has previously encountered criticism. A report from USA Today raised concerns about the foundation’s allocation of funds, suggesting that nearly 75% of donations were spent on benefits and salaries. Of scrutiny was the $222,500 salary of Chief Strategy Officer Ryan Tarpley in 2021.
This controversy stirred discussions within the Broncos community, prompting the foundation’s director to provide a televised response, clarifying that, due to their collaborative work with various partner organizations that directly fund causes, the money doesn’t appear in their tax records.
“Oftentimes, funds that WNYF raises with our partners are donated from those partners DIRECTLY to people and orgs with immediate needs,” Wilson wrote on Instagram. “We put in the work and we don’t
need the credit. Teamwork and making a difference will always come first. As we continue to grow, we will always care more about impact than credit.”
