At long last, the 50th Annual Daytime Emmys has secured a new ceremony date — after six months of postponement. The kudocast, originally slated for June, will now take place on Friday, Dec. 15 at 9 p.m. ET, live to the east and taped delayed in the west on CBS (and also either live or the next day on Paramount+, depending on your subscription plan).
“Entertainment Tonight” hosts Kevin Frazier and Nischelle Turner, who hosted the 2022 Daytime Emmys, are back to emcee this year’s event as well. The broadcast will be held at the Westin Bonaventure hotel in Downtown Los Angeles.
Among the night’s honorees: Daytime icon Susan Lucci (“All My Children”) will receive the lifetime achievement honor at the event.
The Daytime Emmys telecast now joins a weekend chock full of Emmy events from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, all at the Bonaventure. As reported earlier this week by Variety, NATAS has also scheduled the Daytime Creative Arts & Lifestyle Emmys and the Children’s & Family Creative Arts Emmys on December 16, as well as the 2nd Annual Children’s & Family Emmy Awards and Trustees’ Gala on Dec. 17. (The Gold and Silver Circle honor society private luncheon, honoring 2023 Daytime and Children’s & Family inductees, takes place Dec. 14).
“We are pleased to set this new date with CBS for the Daytime Emmys to celebrate our Golden Anniversary,” said NATAS president/CEO Adam Sharp. “We know the loyal fans of daytime television have waited patiently to properly honor and recognize all of the deserving nominees and we look forward to the celebration we have all been waiting for.”
Talk show veteran Maury Povich, who is also a Daytime Emmys lifetime achievement honoree this year, will be handed his award at the Saturday afternoon Daytime Creative Arts event.
This year’s main Daytime Emmys telecast was originally set to air live on June 16. It’s part of a new two-year telecast deal that the academy had set with CBS, which has broadcast the Daytime Emmys 17 times, more than any other network. (The Daytime Emmys Lifestyle & Creative Arts Ceremony were supposed to take place the next day, on June 17.) Those dates were postponed after the WGA strike got under way.
Later, NATAS and CBS chose to wait until the resolution of the SAG-AFTRA strike before confirming the new date (even though the Daytime Emmys and most of its categories fall under the SAG-AFTRA Network Code agreement, which was not a part of this year’s strike).
ABC’s legendary sudser “General Hospital” landed the most Daytime Emmy nominations this year, with 19. CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful” was next in line, with 14 nods, followed by “The Young and the Restless” (13), NBC’s “Days of Our Lives” (11) and the most-honored non-serial, the syndicated “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” also with 11.
NATAS and Associated Television International produce the Daytime Emmys. Adam Sharp and Lisa Armstrong are executive producers from NATAS, while David McKenzie is executive producer from ATI.
