Authorities in Las Vegas have officially charged a man in connection with the murder of iconic rapper Tupac Shakur, a case that has remained unsolved for nearly three decades.

Tupac, a legend in the hip-hop world, was tragically gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas back in 1996, leaving the identity of his assailant shrouded in mystery.

Recently, a grand jury in Nevada indicted Duane “Keffe D” Davis on a single count of murder with a deadly weapon. At the time of the shooting, Tupac Shakur was just 25 years old.

Prosecutor Marc DiaGiacomo, in an interview with CBS News, the BBC’s US partner, referred to Mr. Davis as the “on-ground, on-site commander” who “ordered the death” of Tupac Shakur.

Duane “Keffe D” Davis, now 60 years old, was taken into custody earlier today while he was walking near his residence.

Tupac Shakur tragically lost his life on September 13, 1996, one week after being shot four times while waiting at a red light in his car. His murder has remained an enduring mystery and has been the subject of numerous documentaries.

Reflecting on the recent arrest, radio host Mike Muse told ABC News, “Tupac was a prolific rapper, poet, actor… his lyrics today still serve such a blueprint to culture and society. This is why his death has always loomed over us for so long; over what actually happened to him.”

At the time of his death, Tupac Shakur was embroiled in a feud with fellow rapper Biggie Smalls, who would also meet a tragic end six months later in March 1997. Their rivalry between the East Coast and West Coast hip-hop scenes was a defining element of the mid-1990s hip-hop landscape.

Tupac Shakur had been signed to Death Row Records based in Los Angeles, while Biggie Smalls was associated with Bad Boy Records in New York City. The feud escalated after Tupac was shot during a robbery in a New York City hotel lobby, and he accused Biggie Smalls of having prior knowledge of the incident.

Known by his stage name 2Pac, Tupac Shakur released his debut album in 1991 and went on to sell more than 75 million records worldwide. He achieved chart-topping success with hits like “California Love,” “All Eyez On Me,” and “Changes.” Additionally, he made a mark in the film industry with roles in movies such as “Juice,” “Poetic Justice,” “Above The Rim,” “Gridlock’d,” and “Gang Related.”

In June of this year, Tupac received a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a testament to his enduring impact on the world of music and entertainment.
