More than a year after their breakup, Michael B. Jordan and Lori Harvey’s family ties remain strong. On October 5th, at the NBA Abu Dhabi Games, a heartwarming reunion between the acclaimed actor and his former father-in-law, Steve Harvey, was captured on camera, dispelling any notions of a family feud.

In a video shared by the NBA on their Instagram account, Michael exuded joy as he warmly embraced the affable game show host, with Steve reciprocating the sentiment as they exchanged greetings. The NBA’s caption for the post aptly summed up the heartwarming moment, stating, “All smiles at #NBAinAbuDhabi!”

The Black Panther star, aged 36, and Lori, aged 26, were romantically involved for over a year before parting ways in June 2022. During their relationship, Steve Harvey, who is married to Lori’s mother Marjorie, had been vocal in his support for the couple.

He described Michael as a “nice guy” who was “very respectful” and expressed his cheerfulness for their Hollywood-style relationship in April of the previous year, acknowledging the challenges that come with such a high-profile partnership.

While the couple maintained a level of privacy regarding their relationship, they occasionally shared glimpses of their time together on social media, a decision they made collectively. Lori explained their approach in a 2021 interview with Bustle, saying, “I think we’re both very private people naturally, so we just decide, if we take a picture or whatever it is, do you want to post this? Do we not?”

She went on to elaborate, “I think just as I’ve gotten older and interests change, I think this was something that I just decided to be a little bit more public with because it’s a more serious relationship.”

Following their breakup, Michael candidly discussed his experience of going through a high-profile separation and the valuable lessons he gained from it. In a conversation with Gayle King on CBS Mornings in February, he reflected, “I think for me, it’s just I was lucky enough to have a lot of work, you know? And I’m a firm believer of what’s for you is for you. And coming out of that situation—not to give it any energy and kinda move from that is—it was an experience for me to grow and learn.”

Despite the heartbreak, the Friday Night Lights alum looked ahead with optimism, expressing, “I’m in my light right now. This is my Jordan year. I mean that. This is my year. There’s so much going on—so many blessings, so many great things. This is at a point in my career where there’s not a lot of people telling me no and everything’s wide open.”
