On Tuesday, February 24, ABC7 in L.A. confirmed that the intersection of Slauson Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard is set to be renamed to “Nipsey Hussle Square.” The event was originally announced two weeks ago on the Marathon Clothing and the Neighborhood Nip Foundation’s Instagram accounts.
The late rapper’s family, including his brother Samiel “Blacc Sam” Asghedom and Los Angeles City Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson, will attend a sign ceremony at the southwest corner of the intersection near The Marathon Clothing store and the Neighborhood Nip Foundation plaza on Saturday, February 28, at 10 a.m.
“Nipsey Hussle Square” will forever be etched into history. The plaza near the intersection is where Nipsey Hussle took his last breath in 2019. The 33-year-old artist, born Ermias Asghedom, was in the parking lot of The Marathon clothing store when Eric Holder Jr. shot Nip 10 times and kicked him in the head. Holder was found guilty of murder in 2022 and sentenced to 60 years in prison.
The street naming ceremony will go down a few weeks after Bino Rideaux and Nipsey Hussle’s estate dropped the first single from their upcoming album. On “Reckless,” produced by Mike & Keys, Nipsey kicks off the track with his catchy bars before Bino jumps in with his soothing verse.
The joint album has been in the works for several years. Blacc Sam revealed that the album was recorded in 2019, right before Nipsey was killed. As of this report, a release date for the album has not been confirmed.
