Georgina Kambongo is making history as the first woman to win the Miss Universe Republic of the Congo title, becoming the Central African nation’s first official representative at the international Miss Universe competition. The 24-year-old earned the crown on September 12, 2026, at the Palais des Congrès in Brazzaville, and will now represent the Republic of the Congo at the 75th Miss Universe competition in Puerto Rico.
Her journey to the global pageant goes beyond competing for a crown. According to Face2Face Africa, Kambongo is studying Networks and Telecommunications while pursuing work in journalism and entrepreneurship. She plans to bring those interests to the international stage as she builds a platform around representation, identity, and confidence. Before winning the Miss Universe Republic of the Congo title, she competed in Miss Independence 2024, where she finished as second runner-up.
One of her main goals is to highlight the diversity of Black beauty. She also wants to encourage young women to embrace who they are rather than feel pressured to fit a particular image. Her platform will give her an opportunity to discuss those issues while representing her country and its culture before an international audience.
Representing the Republic of the Congo will also allow Kambongo to introduce her country to a much wider audience. She is expected to showcase Congolese culture while bringing attention to the country’s identity and traditions. She intends to promote tourism during her reign, with a focus on the country’s landscapes, forests, rivers, and cultural heritage.
The new title comes shortly after the Republic of the Congo celebrated 66 years of independence from France. The country marked its independence anniversary on August 15, 2026, with civil and military parades in Brazzaville. President Denis Sassou-N’Guesso later hosted a reception along Boulevard Alfred Raoul as part of the celebrations. The Republic of the Congo gained full independence in 1960.
Kambongo’s win also comes during a period of growing visibility for African women in international pageants. Eritrea recently made its own pageant history when Snit Habteab Tewoldemedhin became the country’s first representative at Miss World. She reached the Top 6 at the 75th Anniversary competition, which ended in Vietnam on September 5, 2026. Eritrea also became the 185th nation to participate in Miss World during the pageant’s 75-year history. Kambongo will now begin her own historic run as the first woman to represent the Republic of the Congo at Miss Universe.
