A woman who accused Jay-Z of sexually assaulting her when she was 13 has now withdrawn her allegations, saying he never raped her, sexually assaulted her, or behaved inappropriately toward her. She also says she has never even met him. The woman, who filed the original lawsuit as Jane Doe, made the statements in a new court declaration and apologized to Jay-Z and his family, including his wife, Beyoncé.
The original lawsuit accused Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs of raping her after the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. She claimed she was 13 years old at the time and said an unnamed celebrity was also at the gathering. The lawsuit was filed in December 2024 after she contacted lawyers about sexual assault allegations involving Combs. Jay-Z denied the claims from the start. The woman later dismissed the lawsuit with prejudice in February 2025, which prevented her from bringing the same claims against him again.
Before withdrawing the allegations entirely, the woman had acknowledged that parts of her story contained mistakes. She said some details about the alleged encounter were incorrect but continued to maintain that she had been sexually assaulted. That earlier admission became part of the dispute between Jay-Z and the attorneys involved in the case. In March 2025, after the lawsuit was dismissed, Jay-Z sued the woman, Texas attorney Tony Buzbee and others involved in bringing the allegations forward.
The woman now says her original allegations against Jay-Z were false. According to TMZ, she wrote in her latest filing that there was “no truth” to her claims and that she understands they caused him “immense pain, suffering, and damage.” Her new attorney, James Blair Newman Jr., said she still maintains that she was sexually assaulted but was “entirely mistaken” when she identified Carter as the person responsible. He said Jay-Z did not rape or sexually assault her and that she has never met him.
She said her involvement in the lawsuit began after she saw a Facebook advertisement in September or October 2024 seeking people with sexual assault claims involving Combs. The woman said the advertisement brought back memories of an alleged rape she experienced at age 13. She responded to the ad and contacted the AVA Law Group and was eventually connected with Texas attorney Tony Buzbee, who filed the lawsuit. She also said she had disclosed mental health conditions to her legal team before the complaint was filed.
The woman says she voluntarily decided to recant her allegations and has not received any money or financial compensation from Jay-Z or anyone acting on his behalf. Her attorney said she sincerely and unconditionally apologized to Carter and his family. Jay-Z is now dropping his claims against the woman following the recantation, while his legal dispute with Buzbee continues.
