The singer-songwriter has not hinted at what’s next, and there’s no timetable for an album or even more songs—but that’s not keeping Americans from not just consuming his work but doing so in large numbers and new ways.
The R&B powerhouse scores a new top 10 hit this week on a Billboard chart he doesn’t know well. Ocean bolts into the loftiest tier on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 with a tune that his fan base is already intimately familiar with, but it’s still growing in popularity.
“White Ferrari” drives into the top 10 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50, entering the highest space on that list for the first time, as it speeds from No. 13 to No. 6. The TikTok Billboard Top 50 ranks “the most popular songs on TikTok in the US based on creations, video views and user engagement,” according to the publication.
Ocean collects his debut top 10 smash on the social media-focused ranking as “White Ferrari” improves. Three of his tunes have, at one time or another, ranked among the 50 most successful songs on TikTok, but before now, none of them had climbed anywhere near the upper reaches of the list.
The Grammy winner’s music has become suddenly especially popular on the app in 2024, as all three of his songs that have landed anywhere on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 have debuted and peaked within the last 12 months. In May, “Godspeed” opened and stalled at No. 44. Two months later, “Self-Control” missed matching that performance by one space.
“White Ferrari” doesn’t only stand as Ocean’s highest-rising hit on the TikTok Billboard Top 50, but also his longest-charting. Both “Godspeed” and “Self-Control” only held on for a single frame before falling away—for good, at least thus far.
Ocean released “White Ferrari” in 2016 on his album Blonde, which still stands as his most recent full-length to this day. The tune was never selected as a proper single, but fans have picked it as a favorite. In the years since it was first unveiled, “White Ferrari” has regularly returned to a number of Billboard’s R&B charts, and now it’s become a proper win on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 as well.
