Smooth was an understatement as Ne-Yo kept his composure when a fan suddenly rushed the stage mid-concert.

In a viral clip, a fan rushed to the stage during the R&B crooner’s Japan tour stop while performing “Because Of You.”

The fan gets on stage and poses next to the 45-year-old, before being mushed to the side, and the “Sexy Love” continued singing and hitting his dance moves. Security quickly came on stage to remove the invader.

The songwriter shared his thoughts about the incident on his Instagram story.

“This is what you don’t do,” he wrote.

“I’m a gentleman but will slap the sh*t out of a person for disrespecting my stage. And then keep the party going. Don’t try me. All love, til it’s not.”

He continued in a separate slide, expressing he would’ve “let him rock for a minute” had the fan run up on his stage “with love” before saying “don’t be this guy.”

Aside from offering fans tips on stage etiquette, the “When You’re Mad” singer is also using his platform to pour into students.

Earlier this year, the actor visited Howard University for an event hosted by Warner Music and the Blavatnik Center for Music Business Education. Speaking to a room full of aspiring professionals, he emphasized the importance of “staying ready” and staying true to yourself, even when the world doesn’t immediately catch on.

He reminded students that not everyone will understand their journey immediately, and that rejection is often a natural part of the process.

“The reality is you’re not going to be everybody’s favorite,” he explained. “Everybody is not going to understand what you’re trying to do right away. You’re going to hear no. You’re going to get compared to somebody that’s perhaps doing what you’re doing or something similar.”

Still, he encouraged them to stay grounded and authentic. “All these things are going to happen; there’s no way around it,” he continued.

“The only thing you can do is understand that just because they don’t know where you’re going yet doesn’t mean you’re lost. It just means they don’t know yet.”
